Tennessee School AED Legislation Introduced Following Middle School Student Death

Tennessee is the latest state (as at March 2010) to look into the placement of AEDs at schools and sporting events. Tennessee House Bill 3250 (TN HB 3250) and Senate Bill 2505 (TN SB 2505) start the important process of placing automated external defibrilators in ALL Tennessee schools. Sadly, the bill was prompted by the death of a student athlete at Eagleton Middle School in Blount County in June of 2009. This bill was just introduced into both the Tennessee Senate and House, and has yet to be voted on.  If enacted, this bill will encourage schools to place AEDs onsite close to gymnasiums or sport venues within the school.
